Nowruz Celebration

Nowruz Festival

Nowruz is the unique and historical celebration of the beginning of the new year along with the coming of spring in the Iranian calendar. This festival is observed by different countries in Iranian cultural world from east of Asia to east of Europe. It has been recognized as an international day by the united nations as well.
The harmony between nature and culture is the significant aspect of this festival which is full of mythological and traditional signs and symbols. All the rituals and celebrations of Nowruz have their own symbolic meanings in representing the renewal of the life cycle. Some of the well-known celebrations of this festival are:

Chaharshanbe Suri
The night before the last Wednesday of the year is celebrated as Chahârshanbe Sûrî or Wednesday feast. It is a festival of fire and traditional song.

Haft Sīn
Haft Sīn or the seven 'S's is a new year table setting by seven items starting with the letter 'S' which symbolizes happiness and well-being. On the first day of Nowruz, all family members gather around the Haft Sīn table and await the arrival of the spring. Then they start the twelve-day celebrations by visiting the relatives and friends, exchanging presents and expressing best whishes for each other in the new year.

Sizdah Bedar
The thirteenth day of the new year festival is Sizdah Bedar or "passing the thirteenth day". Families usually leave their homes and picnic outdoors on this last day of Nowruz.

  1. I rememberd when i was child I really did love Noeruz.but now a day it's not seems like that.it's like more ages,less hapiness unfortunatly.
